Artifact 4: Gapminder Analysis

The first graph I look at is about the life expactancy of the United States in 1800s. The life expactancy from 1800 to 1880 are all the same. Nothing is changing during that time, every points stay on about 40 years old. I think this is very strange, why every points are the same. So, I do some research. Most of the common answer is that before about 1870, their life expactancy always fewer than 40. I think this relate to children per woman. From 1800 to 1880, most of the woman had five or more children. I think this is the problem, because if they have too many children, they can't get good care, and they'll died very soon. Until 1880, they only have about four or less children per woman. And it fit the demographic transition. In demographic transition, they say most of the country began with high fertility and low life expactancy. Years later they change to low fertility and high life expactancy. Also, income per person can change the fertility, too. The most money they get, the higher life quality they have, and the less fertility. So, these indicaters are connect to each other.
The gapminder didn't show the different between black and white. So, I do find it in other website. Black people are higher than white people in lots of things. For example, the birthrate, children per woman, infant mortality rate, and total fertility rate. Except for life expectancy, the life expactncy for black people is 23. I think this is very very low. These statistics let us know that, white people are more develope than black people.

 Artifact 5: Primary Source Evaluation
The California Gold Rush, 1849
In 1849, a man discovered some gold in a river, so lots of people gave up their original job, and go gold rush. This source was created in 1849, by Sheldon Shufelt. It's about he and other people went to California for gold. This source is write like a journal, and it's publish by the Library of Congress A letter from a gold miner, Placerville, California, March, 1850.
The beginning of his letter is about what happened on the sea to California. He said, lots of people were sick. They also face a big Typhoon, and lots of the thing on the boat were destroyed. I thought the author wrote this letter, because he want the let people or his family member to know what did happened. Also to warn others that gold rush are very dangerous and difficult. Like he said in the end, lots of people who go to gold rush were die in contract diseases, and cannot get back to their home. But, lots of people still go for gold even they know it's very dangerous. Like the author himself, he left behind his family and go for a long and dangerous trip. This can also tell us the economy is not very good, so people use their life to get more money.
I think it's not a good decision to do a risk thing like this, just want to get more money. In the game, we have four group member, and they are like your family. Some times, people will go out and kill the big monster for more money. Maybe they'll be alive and get a lot of money, but come back with a little health. Some of them will die, and it will be very dangerous to their group members, too. So, I don't think gold rush is a good job for us.
