How to make good manga?
 A good manga is make up by good plot, special characters and interesting story. said by a manga maker

I made this video at the morning when I just woke up, so you might not understand what I am talking about. This is the script for you to understand what I am trying to express.

A good manga don’t need to draw very carefully. The first thing is the Title and the book cover. It is very important because it is the first sight of this manga. The title need to be very easy to remember, so people can memorize it. The book cover needs to be very creative and strong. It also needs to show some information about this book. 
So, my title is Shuppan Tai-man, it is very creative, and people like it. The book cover is the main character, and he is surrounding by manga. It shows that he is very interesting in manga.
      
After you finish the cover, you need to think a good way to start the story. Lots of manga like to start it by a dream, but I don’t. So, I start with a big yowling by the main character. The main character needs to be very special, so I give him six fingers, and it is very special because not everyone has 6 fingers.

 After the first box, the next few boxes usually use to describe something carefully. And I draw two zooming images to describe what the main character has done. You can see that I leave a blank there, so I can draw other things later. 

After two small boxes, a big box comes afterward. You can see that I draw other three characters that are very special. One is a girlish boy, and the other two are girls. But, remember that main characters need to be very special. So what I did to separate these two girls is to write something on her cloth. You con see a PON on her cloth. 


After the big box, some little boxes come again. So I draw the details of three friends of the main character. Then another important thing comes again. 

You are right; the big bad guy just brought a flag with a circle on it. The villain is important, so we can draw a little person first, and then the villain will come out in a very cool way. She said something very mean, so you can know that she is villain. We can see the bad guy, and she is a girl. She hold a flag with a circle in it, so even I didn’t tell you she is from Japan, you can still know it.


So, now the villain comes, and she is very cool and special too. You might know that she is the bad person even thought I didn’t tell you. She looks really bad, strait hair on the top, and curly hair at the end; Smile like a bad guy, with her vampire-like teeth. Wear a Japanese cloth, and shoe. And now, she shouts out her first word in front of the main character. A O !!! she said(People might not know what is A O, but it is ok because people love mystery), and held up her Japanese manga. . You should read Japanese manga, there s no Taiwanese manga. Very cool, and special.

So, now, it’s the time for main character and the big bad Japanese’s solve the problems face to face. 

Another important point comes, the special skills and the power from the main character. You can see that his hand is on fire when he is drawing, but he feels no pain, really special.

. The next box shows the main character win the fight, and the japan girl is very sad. So, now the bad Japanese start to respect the main character


 Finally, the main character said his name, and shows his special manga hand. Also told his dream, so we can draw a manga base on fulfill Peter Lee’s dream.

This is just the beginning of the manga, it is not very long, but it is a well done work. So, make a good manga is not very difficult. Make the story interesting, make the characters special. Maybe you don’t have good drawing skills like I do; you can still make a good manga. Hope this documentary helps you on creating. Hope you can change Taiwanese manga, and I believe that we can let the whole world see our manga.

Manga

         Lots of people love manga, but do you know the history and the development of manga? Manga this word is a cognate of the Chinese manhua, include comics and cartoons. Manga was discovered in 12 century, most of them are animal manga. At 1962, a magazine, Japan Punch, was publishing in Japan for people who are from other countries, and it was kind of famous. In 1874, Kanagaki Robun and Kawanabe Kyosai created the first manga-magazine which was influence by Japan Punch, Eshinbun Nipponchi. It draws in a very simple style and it did not become very famous. In 1905, a new manga- magazine published with Russo-Japanese War. It is very influential, and made a big process to caricature. This period is very important, its not only good to Japan, but also effect other countries. Japan’s manga start to develop until the Second World War, Japan was lake of paper. After the war, lots of manga-magazine was published. Include girl magazine, Nakayoshi, Weekly Shōnen Sunday, Weekly Shōnen Jump. The most famous work was Astro Boy, made by Osamu Tezuka. Finally, manga in nowadays is so important to everyone. Japan produces more and more manga, and they also make animations. We can say that, this country has the most influential power in manga.
        I introduce Japanese manga first because every manga from different countries was inspired by Japan. For example, Hong Kong, America, and Taiwan’s manga were all impact by Japan. First, Hong Kong’s manga is creating in American style. They draw it in groups, but the editor can control everything. Even though it is draw in American style, the content is more like Japanese manga. The second country that got effect by Japan is America. Most of the content of American manga is about super hero. Different from Japanese manga, it only has four pictures in a page. The characters are different from Japanese manga, their characters are more Western. Finally, Taiwanese manga is the most similar one to Japanese manga. It is because Taiwan was under the control from Japan. During that period, lots of Japanese manga were made for kids. People in Taiwan were very interesting about it, and started to made manga. It was a very important time for Taiwanese manga; lots of famous works were made under Japanese control.
        According to one Japanese report, almost 50% of teenagers watch manga once a week. They spend two hours a week in average, and they watch at least five different manga. We can know that manga is one very important thing to Japan, and it kind of become their culture. Another amazing thing about Japan is the number of the sales. Weekly Shōnen Sunday sales 2 million; Weekly Shōnen Jump sales 3.62 million; Weekly Shonen Magazine sales 4.05 million. These three manga-magazines are the most popular magazine in Japan now. Manga makes about six thousand billion money per year in average, and it is one of the main things in Japan’s economy. Another report from Taiwan’s college about how manga impact teenager’s life. In Taiwan, 43% of teenagers watch manga once a week. The most common type of manga they watch is shoujo manga and shounen manga. Shounen manga is manga that sell to male audience that are between 10 to 18 years old. Shoujo manga is the same as shounen manga, but it is sell to female audience. Teenagers spend about 200 on buying comics every month. But, all of the manga they bought were Japanese manga. In conclusion, I think sailing manga is a good thing to economy. Unfortunately, we don’t have a lot of manga that made from Taiwan.
        I had searched on lots of website for the most famous manga that people look at. There was only one Taiwanese comic in the top 30 popular manga. Hong Kong manga has six and the other 23 are all from Japan. This is an interesting problem that Taiwanese didn’t like Taiwan’s manga. I believe that Taiwan can make good manga, and we had had lots of famous manga. So, what is the main problem that Taiwan doesn’t produce our own manga? The main problem was the rules from our government in the past. The government stopped lots of produces in Taiwan years ago. Every manga that was about the government or something about China will get banned. This rule was the killer of Taiwanese manga, and all we can read in the past was very boring. So, this is one main problem for the depression of Taiwanese manga. Another problem happens after the government removes the rule. We had a short time for our manga revive, until we let Japanese manga invade our market. The manga from Japanese was totally better than us. Compare to our manga, not only the refinement, but the content, the setting, and the plot perfect. Under these manga, Taiwanese comics weren’t popular anymore. After Japan made their manga into animation, the population of Japanese manga went further and further. In the end, there is no space on the book shelf for Taiwanese manga. And the producer gave up and Taiwanese manga died.
        After we study the history and some information about manga, do you feel more when you read comics? Do you want to read some classical manga suck as Astro Boy or Dragon Balls? And is there any ways that Taiwanese manga can revive? I will think about the last problem, because I think Taiwan has a market for manga. But, we pay all of the money to other countries. So, why don’t we think another way to let our manga be popular again and have our special Taiwanese manga!

Solution
According to the news I’ve done a week ago, Taiwanese manga is stuck in a plight on whether how to make it more famous. People in Taiwan had tried lots of solutions, for example, make it like Japanese style, encourage people to create more, they even tried to pay someone from Japan to create a Taiwanese manga. Unfortunately, all of these statements can not solve the problem. So what is the solution for this problem, and make our special manga?
To solve this problem, I did a lot of research. First, I went to some big comic stores and websites. I looked at the top ten selling and top ten popular comics. The top ten selling comics are One Piece, Naruto, Katekyo Hitman Rebron, Bleach, Fairy Tail, Gantz, History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi, Toriko, EDEN NO ORI, and Beelzebub . They are all Japanese manga, and most of them are Shounen Manga. Then I asked the workers in the store about the average age of the customers. She said there are two types of them; one is looking for fun and buys one or two at a time, another one buy the whole set of comics. As we know, teenagers love comics, but the fact is that only adults have money to spend lots of money and buy comics. Finally, I search on the internet and discovered that 85% of the buyer that bought One Piece, Naruto and Katekyo Hitman Rebron are adults.
As I said, the best-selling and the most viewing of manga are Shounen Manga. Shounene Manga usually focuses on a main character or a group of people that have special power. They fight with enemies, meet new partners, learn new powerful skills, and become stronger and stronger. Also, they need to have different characteristic, so everyone is special. Some are powerful, some are funny, some are handsome or beautiful, and someone who is always opposes the main character. The last main thing is the setting and plot. It is important because it connect all of the characters and how and what thing will happens in the future. I think a good manga should contain those ideas. And this is why Taiwanese manga from twenty or ten years ago didn’t get popular. People in the past liked to draw things about government, or some historical story such as how Japanese bully us. Some manga even made from the government, and it’s all political manga. Those topics cannot catch the attention from people, and this is why Taiwanese manga can’t rise up.
Another main reason is the limitation from parents. According to the report from newspaper, 54% of parents don’t think manga is good for their children; 23% of them don’t even let their children read it, and the other 23% think it is not a big deal on reading manga. So, the majority of parents think that manga is bad for children’s education. But the fact is that most of our parents don’t even read the modern manga. They still think that manga are violent, pornographic, and teach them wrong thing, because they only read the manga from twenty years ago. However, manga from nowadays are just for fun. Reading manga is like eat a cake in the afternoon teatime. I cannot say it is good for teenagers, but I can say that it won’t make us a criminal (unless you addicted read it). So, I think reading manga is just for relax. Maybe our parents need to try it and feel our feeling.
There are lots of different ways to solve this problem, but I think the best statement is to encourage teenagers from creating. Even though the majority of the buyers are adult, teenagers are still the group that can change our country. Maybe our skills on drawing are not as good as Japanese; maybe we can’t publish it, but who care? A good manga is not like drawing landscape, you don’t need too many drawing skill. It emphasize its plot, character setting, and. And teenagers know what a teenager like, so I can said that teenagers are the most suitable group of people for this task. We don’t need to publish it on the market, we can just upload our works on the website and share with everyone first. Then if it gets popular, more and more people will start to drawing. If the government can create some competition, I think it will get better to inspire someone from drawing. Manga is a good commodity, it’s a global commodity. If we can solve this problem and make some good manga, we can be a better country. And I believe that we have a lot of talented person in Taiwan that can change our country.

Pre-Colonial 
       Hutu and Tutsi are two different groups in Rwanda. They weren't separate until the King decide to divide people into two groups. People who has more animals, moneys, or power will be a Tutsi. People who is in lower classes, will be a Hutu. So, Tutsi people usually have more power.


Colonialism
       This two group live together until Germany, and Belgium move in. Belgium use the same idea to separate Hutu and Tutsi. They also separate them by their face. People who have long nose, and look more like a Belgian will also be a Tutsi. They give them more power, they control more things, and have more welfare. About 15% of Tutsi work in government, and 85% of Hutu were in lower classes. 


Independent 
     After Belgians leave, Hutu start a lot of revolution, because they feel very unfair with the control of power. In 1972, they had a small revolution. About 200,000 Tutsi people got kill. In 1985, Hutu have more powers, but they still have a lot of revolutions. 


     1994, after the president got kill. People from Hutu think he was killed by Tutsi, so they start another big revolution. One million Tutsi got killed in this revolution.




Compare and Contrast
Tutsi


       Tutsi is a smaller group of people in Rwanda. Tutsis often have more power since the king in the past is a Tutsi. Also, during the Belgian's control, people from Tutsi works in the government for them because they look more like Belgians. Tutsis usually have bigger, higher or longer nose, and they are taller. Tutsis are kind of proud to control the government, and to have greater power than Hutu until Belgians leave. Hutu start to kill people from Tutsi, and start a lot of revolutions. 


Tutsi's perspective:
In this movie, Tutsis got killed for about a million of people. But, most of people in that day didn't care about the difference between Tutsi and Hutu. They get marry and have children, like Paul and Tatiana. Some others are good friends, like the two girl in the beginning of the movie. After this thing happened, the perspective of Tutsis are totally different, they don't have the control of the power anymore. 


Hutu
        Hutu has a bigger population in Rwanda. They are in the lower class for a very long times. Under the control of Tutsi's King, Hutu were know as poor people, and do not have any power. Under Germany and Belgium's control, they still live in a lower classes. Belgium separate them because they think Hutu people didn't look like them. So, they gave more power to Tutsis, who look more like Western people. After Belgium leave, Hutu change the unfair feeling into anger, and start to kill Tutsis. In 1986, they finally control more power than Tutsis, but they still want to kill them all. In 1994, they think Tutsis kill the president, so they start the revolution, and kill approximately 800,000 Tutsis. 


Hutu's perspective:
Hutu don't have a lot of power in the past, and during the control of Belgians. They feel very angry, and try to revenge after Belgians leave. After Belgians leave, they control most of the government and power, and still want to kill the 14% of Tutsis in this land. In their perspective, Tutsis are cockroaches. Also, people from radio try to influence all of the Hutu, and make everyone think that kill a Tutsi is not a big deal. 
As we can see in this picture, Tutsis is taller than Hutu. Also looks more like a Western people.

The third perspective ( UN, and people from other countries):
In this movie, people from other countries seem like they don't really care about this killing spree. All they want to help is people from their own country. Their was a conversation between Paul and the interviewer,I think is very interesting. They said "After they see those violet picture, they'll say, oh! This is horrible, and they'll continue eating their dinner." So,it shows that, people from other countries don't really care about this thing.

This presentation is about the special tribes in Africa. While I was searching for interesting things, I discovered those tribes are very special, so I search for it, and share to everyone. I put some primary sources such as pictures, and videos. I thought some of the picture are not very good for children, so I draw it out for everyone to understand more. I didn't put the real pictures in path, so if you want to take a look, you can find it in the prezi next to my drawing.

Daniel's presentation is mainly about the musics in Africa. He also talk about some history of their musics, like when is the first record of their music. I think his presentation is very interesting, because I don't even know some of the instrument. Some of the instrument are very special, and you won't even know that is an instrument, but the musics it play out are very good. I love music, and I learned a lot from this present. Also, I think it is very interesting to share with everybody like my presentation.

Otto von Bismarck (The Master of "Realpolitik"):
Realpolitik: A System of politics based on practical, and not necessarily moral, consideration. Otto von Bismarck implement this system when he rule the country.

                Otto von Bismark born April 1, 1815, is a son of the Prussian aristocracy, and unified Germany in the 1870s. When was born in Schoenhausen, his father wish him can be a soldier, his mother wish he can be a politician. When he was young, lots of people in the school don't like him, but he did not give up and learn five different languages when he was 12. He become a lawyer when he is 21 years-old, but he was known as a heavy drinker, and leave with no direction.  Until he is 30 years old, he got married and involved in politics. Also become a substitute member of the Prussian parliament. After a few years, he use some trick to become the real parliamentary. And in 1962s he become the prime minister.
           In a meeting with legislators in September 1862, Bismarck said that."The great question of the day will not be decide by speeches and resolutions of majorities, but by blood and iron." Then, "blood and iron " become a popular nickname for his policies. Also let Bismarck and the king stay in a good relationship for a long time. Then he plan three war to unity Germany, Austro-Prussian War, Franco- Pussian War, and Denmark- Prussian War. These war greatly increased Bisbarck's own power.
           After Kaiser Wilhelm died in early 1888, the next king don't like Bismarck, and this is the fall of his power.

This is the video about the motivations about some workers. In this video, they do a lot of different test on different group of people, and find out some interesting things about motivation. I think it is very interesting, and it gave me some different point of view.

Karl Marx


             Karl Marx (May 5, 1818 – March 14, 1883) was born in Trier. He is famous for  philosopher, political economist, historian, political theorist, sociologist, and communist revolutionary. I want to talk about a thought that he bring out from his book, capitalism and communism. Capitalism is one of the economic system in which the means of production are privately owned and operated for a private profit; decisions regarding supply, demand, price, distribution, and investments are made by private actors in the free market; profit is sent to owners who invest in businesses, and wages are paid to workers employed by businesses and companies. It means that everything is made by other people, the money they make will go to the owner, and the owner will give the workers money.
             In his book, he think capitalism will break down the economics of the country. People who is very rich, will become richer and richer. People who is not very rich, wil become poorer and poorer. Than the economics between this two classes of people will have a big difference. So, what he bring out is another system of economic, Communism. Communism is a sociopolitical movement that aims for a classless and stateless society structured upon common ownership of the means of production, free access to articles of consumption, and the end of wage labour and private property in the means of production and real estate. So, in this economic system, everyone will get the same profit. No one will be rich, also no one will be poor.
            I think communism is not a good system. It sounds like a good system, because everyone can get the same thing, so no one will be poor. What if someone didn't do anything, but still can get the same thing as the one who work hard? Then the one who work hard will give up, and no one can get the profits. It means that everyone will be poor in this system. Communism is not a bad economic system, it's too good for some selfish people. Communism only work for a group of people that are all altruist. Unfortumately, not everyone is an altruist.


Zero-Sum

             Zero-sum describes a situation in which a participant's gain or loss is exactly balanced by the losses or gains of the other participant. So, the total gains from a person, and the total losses from another one will add up to zero. Zero-sum games are also called strictly competitive.
             In the class, Mr. Kinzer ask us if we can find out a solution that everyone can gain.

Thomas Malthus


          
           Thomas Malthus is famous for his population theory. He said that is the population keep growing, lots of bad things will happen. Like hunger, diseace, and war.
"In October 1838, that is, fifteen months after I had begun my systematic inquiry, I happened to read for amusement Malthus on Population, and being well prepared to appreciate the struggle for existence which everywhere goes on from long- continued observation of the habits of animals and plants, it at once struck me that under these circumstances favourable variations would tend to be preserved, and unfavourable ones to be destroyed. The results of this would be the formation of a new species. Here, then I had at last got a theory by which to work".

Compare, Contrast Capitalism and Socialism draft#1
There are many different kinds of economic system, and the two most common type of system are capitalism and socialism. Capitalism is an economic that the property, profit, or production are privately own. But, most of the profit are send to the owner who invest the businesses, and other little money will send to the workers and employees. This economic system is the one that Taiwan and most of the countries are using now. There are two different types of socialism, but basically socialism is define as people share the idea, and the means of product are all control by the government.
There are lots of difference between socialism and capitalism. The main difference is the control of the means of product. In capitalism, the means of product are control by the own the businesses and the people who invest the businesses. For socialism, the means of product are not control by the owner but the government. Secondly, in capitalism, the government can’t effect the price of goods and economy. The economy are control by the big company, or companies that have big influence. This is totally opposite to socialism, because the economy in socialism are all control by the center government. Third, the way they get the wages are different. In capitalism, the money they make will go to the owner of the business. Then the owner will give paid the workers. In socialism, money will go to the government first, and then the government will paid the workers and employees, but everyone got almost the same money.
        Capitalism is the most common type of economic system, and there are some advantage about this system. First, the person who got the better idea will earn more money. So, everyone can be a very rich man if you can come out with a very good idea. Second, people who work harder usually got more money. So if you don’t work very hard, you won’t earn a lot of money. The most important thing that socialism doesn’t include is that people individual own their own wealth. Even though there are a lot of good things in this system, it still has some disadvantage. As we said, people who work hard or have some good ideas can get more money, but people who didn’t or can’t work hard won’t got any profits. The person who is rich, will become richer and richer, and the prices of things will growth up. But, the people who is not rich, will become poorer and poorer. In the end, it will have a big difference between rich people and poor people.

Our Nation Policies

Domestic Policies:
The goal of our nation’s economy is allow the citizens of փ to reach their dreams, and work where they want. Agriculture is dominated by technology, enabling 75% of the population to live in the 9 cities in the country with high standards of living, as it is not overpopulated and population growth is not extreme as shown in developed first world living environments. People will then have the right to work where they want. Wealth is not defined as money, as our country enables the conveniences of money- Health, housing, food, etc. Since the disadvantages of democracies is the disparities in wealth with the advantage of freedom of speech, with unlimited access to wealth (as it is not defined as money) allows rights to be accessed equally and freely. It becomes evident our nation obtain financial gain through trade of our technologically advanced wares and agricultural trade.
       Classes are generally defined so the lower class is reduced to machinery by our advanced technology. Areas around cities are used for agriculture and tourism. The middle class and higher class dominate the society. Wealth is also able to be shared amongst people. A zero paradigm ceases to exist as knowledge cannot be destroyed. We are the Times mean as our nation affects the current world, we openly take in the changes occurring in the world as well, thus we are the Times.

i) Currency policy:
       Private Currencies will be used, an interesting mechanism by which a stable currency might be achieved. Although central banks, currency boards, and the gold standard each attempt to restrain a government’s tendency to inflate, Our governments is removed from the provision of money. If private currencies are allowed to circulate freely, competition will ensure that the value of these currencies will remain constant. “If any issuer attempts to collect too much seigniorage by printing excessive amounts of its currency, consumers will substitute out of that currency into a competing currency with a more stable purchasing power. The offending currency will cease to circulate as money.” Hayek
Thus, currency issuers will have an incentive to remain honest. Governments be completely removed from the business of issuing money is not likely to come to fruition
in the near future. Nevertheless, his basic proposition that competition will provide the necessary incentive to keep people (or countries) honest. Our motto, We are the Times, thus implies we have no set currency, but follow the most stable currency on the market. We push for other countries to adapt as well.

ii) Education policy:
       Education is free, and there are several institutes in each city. As times go on, school is no longer the place you seek innovation and knowledge, but the Internet. Our Internet is based on a server that connects to databases, forums, and social platforms, which is monitored by those hired by the government, built up by the community. Both virtual and physical learning environments exist, where the Internet is learning and schools and institutions are application.

iii) Security policy
The security force is provided through police force, where offenders are to subject willingly to the directions of the police, else stun guns will render the offender unconscious. The police can be called upon when there is a violation of ones individual rights and rights to property. Internet security policies are enforced by government appointed moderators.

iv) Legal Policy
There are two sectors, Freedom Sector and Restricted Sector. Rights are entitled to both sectors, though the restricted sector is created for those who have committed crimes in the past. If someone from sector two commits crime again they will be subjected to imprisonment and bans from certain rights. Main rights are rights to knowledge, rights to property, and rights to ideas. The fundaments of our nation is to attempt to create an environment where the sharing of these rights is greatly encouraged, while not using it to create individual profit.

v) Health care
       The health care in our country is single-pay compulsory social insurance plan which centralizes the disbursement of health-care funds. The system promises equal access to health care for all citizens, aiming for population coverage of 99%. The health care system is funded through payroll tax, and is supplemented with out-of-pocket payments and direct government funding.

vi) Agricultural and Food production policy
     Our vision is not to advance as a nation, but to advance as humanity. The diversity of our wealth comes through trade, and that which is not cities or forests is arable land, which sus up to 54% of our countries land mass.
    
Issues of Domestic and Foreign Policy:
People are eligible as long as the citizen has lived in the Nation for 2 or more years, where as immigration must present a visa. As stated in our currency policy, we take the most stable private currency of the times. We acknowledge that the military strength of a nation is not defined as the army personnel but its advancement in weaponry and economic influence. Thus mandatory military service will not be required.

Foreign Policy:
We strive to improve the world as a whole, and the relationships between other countries are relatively peaceful. Disputed waters amongst the shores of Territory 21 have been problems since the beginning of our nation. We promoted the installation of intergovernmental organizations that provide health care and support amongst all nations.

i) Military, defence, and National Security:
     All military activities within our borders without previous notification will lead to the forfeiting of weapons found on the army personnel regardless of nationality. Any Resistance will be followed by return fire from our nations soldiers. Private sectors of cities and countries are out of bounds from all within our borders, and will lead to interrogation if caught. Attempts made on the breaching of virtual security will lead to interrogation and imprisonment, and no extraterrestrial rights will be given.

ii) Foreign aid
     Any catastrophes (natural or artificial) will receive foreign aid from us, regardless of the nations status towards our Nation. Enemies will receive help. We will only receive help from allies and neutral countries. We support the adaptation of our economy in other countries, as the spread of wealth amongst nations will only increase diversity and cultural richness of the world.

The Hadza Tribe

   The Hadza tribe is a tribe which located near the lake of Eyasi in Afica. In this tribe, women wear traditional clothing like leather apron, and men wear a leather and a belt. Hadza is a very interesting tribe, during raining season, people live in small groups, and when the dry season comes, people will live in a group of 100 to 200. In this tribe, people move their living place every two weeks, they usually move with their own families member.

Stop Disaster

  This is our nation's map. As you can see, the most important land is the middle one.It contains seven cities, lots of the resourses, and the most population. This land is all surround by moutains, execept for the only one gap at the top. Fortunately, there is a land at the top, so it can stop, or at least slow, decrease some big tsunami. The left land is surround by other lands too, so we don't need to care about it. The most dangerous part is the right small land, because it don't have any protection. To make sure our people is safe, there won't be too many on it. This is our plan to stop the disaster like tsunami.

Artifact 1: Travel Guide

Through this case study we will learn about the United States in the 19th century, America's influence on other countries, and how it grew to become the world today.

Delware
New Castle Court House Museum- Built in 1732, it served as Delware’s first court and state capitol. In 1776, New Castle, Kent, Sussex, declared independence from Pennsylvania and England to create Delware.

John Dickson Plantation- One of the founding fathers, known as Penman of the Revolution.


The Old State House- Built in 1791, the Old State House served as Delware’s capitol during the United State’s critical years. Served until 1933.

Johnson Victrola- Founder of the Victor talking machine company and pioneered the sound recording industry.

Zwaanendael Museum- Shows history of Delaware’s first European colony, Swanendael established by the Dutch in 1631.
 
 Abbott’s Mill-Built in 1795 since wheat and corn were the chief crops.
Pennsylvania
Allegheny County Courthouse- In Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was constructed between 1836 and 1840. It is built of polished gray sandstone, and designed by Chislett. It is of Greek Revival design, and completed in 1841.
 
Allegheny Portage Railroad- First railroad constructed through the Allegheny Mountains in central Pennsylvania. It was financed by the state of Pennsylvania to compete with the Erie Canal constructed in New York, the Chesapeake and Ohio Cana, and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad
The Andalusia Estate- Nicholas Buddle Estate was build along the Delaware River by John Craig in 1794 but expanded in 1806 by Benjamin Labrobe in Greek revival Style. It is known for being one of the first to embrace the Greek Revival Style (An architectural movement in North Europe and the United States of Neoclassic architecture, term recently dubbed by Charles Robert Cockerell.)
 
Augustus Lutheran Church was built during 1743 to 1745 in Trappe Pennsylvania. The majority of the building material was found locally when first constructed. The shell was finished during 1743, but not finished until 1745. When the American Revolution took place, it was used as a camping site and hospital for Hessian Troops (German regiments hired by the British Empire). NOTICE: Site closed due to recent hurricane that damaged roof and organ.
Hotels- Bedford Springs Hotel- It was founed by John Anderson under Greek Revival style, and even housed US President James Buchanan.
 
Bomberger’s Distillery- This is a classic example of turning agricultural enterprise into a huge industry. In 1753, John and Michael Shenk distilled rye whiskey at the site. It eventually was turned into a Distiller after Abraham Bomberger purchased the distillery from them.
Smithfield Street Bridge- Recently burned down in the Pittsburgh Great Fire (1845), it was originally a wooden bridge built across Monongahela by Louis Wernwag in 1818. Current constructions are remodeling it into a steel one.
 
New Jersey
All Saints’ Memorial Church- It is a small gothic stone Church recently built by Richard Upjohn.
Boxwood Hall- This was the home of Elias Boudinot 1772 to 1795, the president of the Continental Congress and he was also the signer of the treaty of Paris in 1783 which ended the American Revolution. It was then sold to Jonathan Dayton, one of the people who signed the Declaration of Independence.
 
Burlington County Prison- It started operating since 1811, and was designed for a second chance for prisoners- rehabilitation. its motto was Justive Which, While it Punishes, Would Endeavor to Reform the Offender.”

Grace Church in Newark- 950 broad Street in Newark, New Jeresy and was founed on Ascension Day in 1837. It was a major influence on Gothic churches, designed. by Richard Upjohn.
 
Sandy Hook Lighthouse- It was designed and construced by Isaac Conro in 1764 and is the oldest working lighthouse in the US. It is also called the New York Lighthouse.
 
Rhode Island
Westminster Arcade (Providence Arcade): This building was built in 1828. It was the first shopping mall in United States in Providence. The building was built in Greek rectilinear temple style. Let’s go to the mall and shop!

Flying Horse Carousel : Built in 1876 at Watch Hill by the Charles W. Dare Company. It was built for the National Historic Landmarks. It is not the oldest carousel, but it is the oldest type of carousel. Come and see this Flying Horse!

Nelson W. Aldrich House : This building was built in 1821 by John Holden Green. also known as the Dr. S. B. Tobey House. It was a house for U.S.’ senator Nelson W. Aldrich during 1881-1911.

Chateau-sur-Mer is the first of the grand Bellevue Avenue mansions of the Gilded Age mansions in Newport, Rhode Island. It was built in 1852. It was built for a merchant, William Shepard Wetmore. Now it is a public museum.
Governor Henry Lippitt House: It is a museum located in Providence, Rhode Island. It was built in 1865 by Governor Henry Lippitt. This house was a Historic Landmark in 1976.
 
The Naval War College Museum: This building was built in Newport, Rhode Island in 1884. It is one of the fifteen official museums operated by the U.S. Navy. Now this museun is for the history of Naval war.

Artifact 4: Gapminder Analysis


                  The first graph I look at is about the life expactancy of the United States in 1800s. The life expactancy from 1800 to 1880 are all the same. Nothing is changing during that time, every points stay on about 40 years old. I think this is very strange, why every points are the same. So, I do some research. Most of the common answer is that before about 1870, their life expactancy always fewer than 40. I think this relate to children per woman. From 1800 to 1880, most of the woman had five or more children. I think this is the problem, because if they have too many children, they can't get good care, and they'll died very soon. Until 1880, they only have about four or less children per woman. And it fit the demographic transition. In demographic transition, they say most of the country began with high fertility and low life expactancy. Years later they change to low fertility and high life expactancy. Also, income per person can change the fertility, too. The most money they get, the higher life quality they have, and the less fertility. So, these indicaters are connect to each other.
               The gapminder didn't show the different between black and white. So, I do find it in other website. Black people are higher than white people in lots of things. For example, the birthrate, children per woman, infant mortality rate, and total fertility rate. Except for life expectancy, the life expactncy for black people is 23. I think this is very very low. These statistics let us know that, white people are more develope than black people.

 Artifact 5: Primary Source Evaluation
The California Gold Rush, 1849
              In 1849, a man discovered some gold in a river, so lots of people gave up their original job, and go gold rush. This source was created in 1849, by Sheldon Shufelt. It's about he and other people went to California for gold. This source is write like a journal, and it's publish by the Library of Congress A letter from a gold miner, Placerville, California, March, 1850.
              The beginning of his letter is about what happened on the sea to California. He said, lots of people were sick. They also face a big Typhoon, and lots of the thing on the boat were destroyed. I thought the author wrote this letter, because he want the let people or his family member to know what did happened. Also to warn others that gold rush are very dangerous and difficult. Like he said in the end, lots of people who go to gold rush were die in contract diseases, and cannot get back to their home. But, lots of people still go for gold even they know it's very dangerous. Like the author himself, he left behind his family and go for a long and dangerous trip. This can also tell us the economy is not very good, so people use their life to get more money.
             I think it's not a good decision to do a risk thing like this, just want to get more money. In the game, we have four group member, and they are like your family. Some times, people will go out and kill the big monster for more money. Maybe they'll be alive and get a lot of money, but come back with a little health. Some of them will die, and it will be very dangerous to their group members, too. So, I don't think gold rush is a good job for us.

The History of Jeans


In mid 19th century, the father of jeans "Levi strauss" create a brand "Levis". It is the first brand of jeans. Everyone like this kind of pant. Now, people still like to wear jeans. More amd more kinds of different jeans were create. People nowadays wear them because they think they are very fashion. But in 1800s, jeans were design for workers.
During that period, everyone is intersting in gold rush. Most of their pant has a lot of holes. Levi strauss who is work in a textile factory bring 100 jeans to the place. Everyone who rush gold like that kind of pant, because it's very durable. It become popular, so Levi strauss create a brand for it. In 20th century, jeans become so popular. Even the movie star wear it in the movie. Cowboys in the movie always wear jeans. Jeans even wear in some of the romantic movies.

Artifact9 : Student Free Choice
Slavery(black)


At late 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, the cotton machine has been invent. This is a simple machine, but it rise the value of the cotton, and effect the trade of the slaves. During this period, the price of the cotton is 70 times higher than before. Its also make lots of slave's issue, like slave reproduction, smuggling, and slave trade.
On the other hand, lots of black and white people on every place were lead by some intellectual to anti-slavery. Especially for the northern part of the United States, people were fight aginst the government and fight for their right and moral, and want to liberate slaves. The first abscond is the under ground railroad. It is the first and also the biggest abscond. Because 1830-1860 is the worst period of the slavery, so the numbers of the abscond people were over 60000. Most of them were abscond to Canada, or some cities that don't agree slavey. They also build up some churches for slaves, like Negro Baptist, and Negro Methodist.
Slave, is one of the cause of lots of the civil war. For example, 1816 Florida's Negro Fort. They ally with Indians and fight the war. They have a lots of the war and rebellion, all of them didn't success, but they did effect the United States. In these war, the most important one is the war about the against-slavery association fight for the freedom and liberation. The leader of this war is the under ground railroad conductor. She is a abscond slave, too. Another most important leader is Frederick Douglass. They think this war is not only fight for the freedom of slaves, but also fight for the whole United States.
On April 12, 1861. The war between North and South has began. This is a very big war, 500000 slaves were fight in this war for North. They did a very good job. On July 1862, they can join the army. Even they only got half of the salary, 200000 slaves still join it and fight for about 200 important war. In the end, Lincoln agree the "Emancipation Proclamation", and this is one reason that the north will win this war.
