Artifact 3: Headline News report

The attacked
1813 October 9th
The luddites broke lots of machines, and distroyed the wool and cotton mills. One of the few prominent defenders of the Luddites, and 17 men were executed an 1813 tral. Lots of people were send to Australia.  Eventhough the government did lots of punishments, liddites still met at night to practising drills and manoeuvres. They plan to kill the owner of the Rawfolds Mill, William, or force him to get rid of the machines, so they can work in the mill. Yesterday, Three Luddites, led by George Mellor, ambushed and assassinated William at the moor. Mellor firing the shot to the groin and William died.

Artifact 4: Biographical Spotlight
Florence Nightingale

Florence Nightingale was born in Florence, and her name is name after where she was born. She have a rich family and it's in the upper-class. She believed that she was born for be a nurse. During the Crimean War, she found out a lot of problems for there soldiers. Like they don't have enough medicines, lots of place have bad hygiene, inflections were happened every where, and they also don't have any equipment, these problem affect the death rate. The death rate began to rise, and the death count is the highest than before. Six months after, Florence Nightingale had arrived, and she fixed a lot of problems like sewers and improvements to ventilation. Then she did lots of improvements and the death rate were sharply reduced.
Also, lots of people call her. "The Lady with the Lamp" after her habit of making rounds at night.

 My dear Holmes: My previous letters and telegrams have kept you pretty well up to date as to all that has occurred in this most God-forsaken corner of the world. The longer one stays here the more does the spirit of the moor sink into one's soul, its vastness, and also its grim charm. When you are once out upon its bosom you have left all traces of modern England behind you, but, on the other hand, you are conscious everywhere of the homes and the work of the prehistoric people. On all sides of you as you walk are the houses of these forgotten folk, with their graves and the huge monoliths which are supposed to have marked their temples. As you look at their gray stone huts against the scarred hillsides you leave your own age behind you, and if you were to see a skin-clad, hairy man crawl out from the low door fitting a flint-tipped arrow on to the string of his bow, you would feel that his presence there was more natural than your own. The strange thing is that they should have lived so thickly on what must always have been most unfruitful soil. I am no antiquarian, but I could imagine that they were some unwarlike and harried race who were forced to accept that which none other would occupy.
All this, however, is foreign to the mission on which you sent me and will probably be very uninteresting to your severely practical mind. I can still remember your complete indifference as to whether the sun moved round the earth or the earth round the sun. Let me, therefore, return to the facts concerning Sir Henry Baskerville.
If you have not had any report within the last few days it is because up to to-day there was nothing of importance to relate. He has certainly a very marked influence over her, for I have seen her continually glance at him as she talked as if seeking approbation for what she said. I trust that he is kind to her. There is a dry glitter in his eyes and a firm set of his thin lips, which goes with a positive and possibly a harsh nature. You would find him an interesting study.

19th century women's dress

Women's dress in 19th century is very similar to 17thcentury's dress, but is more gorgeous. Most of their dress were focus on the bottom part, like they have lots of decorations on their skirks.

The Musician in 19th century: Felix Mendelssohn

             Felix Mendelssohn was one of the greatest musician in Britain in 19th Century. He is a prodigy like Mozart. He is not only a good pianist, but also a very good composer, organist and conductor. He contribute a lot to the romantic period, he is the first one who conduct Bach's song after Bach's death. After he conduct Bach's song, he become famous in Britain.

             Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, known as  Felix Mendelssohn  was born in Hamburg. Different to most of the musician, he grew up in a very good environment. He has his own orchestra, so he can listen to lots of songs. He has a performance when he was nine,and started to composed when he was 11.

             He finished one of hos famous work, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in 1826.

Artifact 10: Main Events: Cause and Effect Analytical Writing

 Urbanization is define as a movement from countryside or rural to urban areas. Urbanization happens in late 19th century, people from countryside start to move into cities for high quality life. As more and more people start to leave rural and move into the cities, the economy of the urban area will be better. No one want to stay in the countryside, and the population in the country will lost its balance. Also, it will cause a lot of problems.

           Urbanization happens in most of the developing countries. First people leave from rural to urban areas for a good life. Few years latter, the economy will growth rapidly, but the rural is not. Then the urban area will have good technology, good jobs, good schools, and good hospitals, and lots off things in urban areas are better. But, too many people move to the cities can also bring out lots of problems. Like disease, over crowded, and populations.

            During urbanization, people's situation are very different from the beginning to the and. The situation change from "they want to go to urban area" to "they have to go to urban area."  People who got sick have to go to cities, because they don't have good hospital in countryside. Kids need good schools so they have to go to urban area. Adult have to go to urban area for good jobs. Then, people who left in countryside are old, and the population of the country will lost the balance.

            Urbanization is a good phenomenon to a country that need to developed, because the economy will grow very fast. But urbanization still cause lots of problem. China is a very good example, there are lot of chance to get a job in big city, so people over there move in to the urban area. Their economy grow rapidly, but it also cause a lot of pollution.

Some of the girls that live in countrysides were send to cities to work in other people's house.

            During urbanization, people's situation are very different from the beginning to the end.             Urbanization stills happened in modern world. According to the UN, the urban growth grow rapidly. From 19th century the population of the cities is 13％ (about 220 millions), in 1950s the population grow to  29% (about 732 millions). Then in 2005, the ratio of the population of the city grow to 49%, and it means there are about three point two billions of people that is in the city. The urban growth grow, can also cause a lot of problem. Too many factories will cause a lot of pollutions, it will polite the water and air. Then if the food we eat contains some bad things, it will cause a disease. The disease will infect the whole city very soon, because too many people is in the city, and air pollution make it even worst. These thing happens in Britain, too.

Artifact 13: Gapminder Analysis and a Data-Driven Worldview Resource

I choose United Kingdom.

        My first two indicators are life expectancy vs income per person. During 19th century both United Kingdom's income per person and life expectancy were very high. Before I look The graph, I thought the income per person and the life expectancy are in direct ratio. But, after I look at the graph, I discover they are not in direct ratio. For example, during 1845 to 1849, the life expectancy drop rapidly, because the potato blight breaks out in Ireland, and kill lots of people during these year. In 1849, they have a lot of war, and potato blight didn't solved, too, and the life expectancy drop down to 39. So, the income per person grow, doesn't means  life expectancy will grow, too.

         The next two indicators are income per person vs children per woman. After I observed the graph, I discover a very interesting thing. Before 1820s, they have more and more children per woman, they have about six children per woman, and the income per person grow very slow. After 1820 the children per woman drops very fast. I think this is because Industrial Revolution. People before 1820 work on farm, and they need a lot of people to help, so if they can have more children, they don't need to hire others. After 1820 most of the people went in to cities and work, and they also have machine to help, so they don't need much children. I also discover that, as more and more income, people have higher quality life, they will have lesser children. At the end of 19th century, their income is very high, but they only have three children per woman.

       The last indicators I use are CO2 emission and life expectancy. I first think that life expectancy is related to the CO2 emission, but they are not. From 1820, CO2 emission grow every years. It did not drop and didn't have a sudden change. The graph only show the years after 1820, and I think its because the Industrial Revolution. After 1820, they have more and more machines, and lots of factories, so the CO2 emission keep on raising. Actually, the life expectancy doesn't really relate to CO2 emission, only if they got sick, and the CO2 can make them become worse.

Artifact14:Research Collaboration and Presentation Resource

The topic of this video is Epidemics and Medical Treatments. There are lots of epidemics in Britain during 19th century, like cholera, chicken pox, and diphtheria. In this video, we clearly explain the causes of cholera, "transmitted through water." Diphtheria is transmitted by the air. The character's mom work in the factories which is a small, airtight place, so she got a diphtheria. At middle 19th century, the don't have a vaccine or medicine to treat it, so lots of people were died in these epidemics. Until late 19th century, vaccine and medicine were invented by a doctor, which is one of the character in the video. In this video, we also talk about music in 19th century, and how low class people think about Romanticism and realism. Our question is Romanticism is more accepted by the lower class than realism in England. Hope you guys will enjoy this video.

Artifact17: Disraeli and Gladstone

In artifact 17 I support Gladstone's thought, which is Gladstonian Liberalism. He thought, we have to limited government ecpendition, so they can't waste money. He support low tax, low cost, and low growth economy, because he think this will make the government more balance. Also, he emphasised free trade to let the economy growth. No conscript army is one of his main thought. Base on there things, I think he is a good stadholder.

Sacrifice

I spent a lot times on every single artifact. I sacrifice my free times;  I sacrifice my sleeping times;  I sacrifice my exercise times. For artifact 14, we spent almost two days, so I think I sacrifice a lot.
